CHAPTER 7

Mickey had a beautiful voice, sort of deep and throaty, sexy. Tabby didn’t understand why Mickey had never told her. It was possible that Mickey didn’t realize she had such a gorgeous voice, but if she had ever sang for anyone else, surely they had told her. How could they not? She sounded much better than some of the other singers that called themselves professionals and sold thousands of records. She decided she would ask her.

Stepping into the bathroom, she stepped on a creaky board. Mickey heard it and whipped around to see what it was. When she seen Tabby standing there, her face turned red and she jumped out of the tub and grabbed a towel to wrap around her.

Tabby was confused as to what was wrong. “Baby, you ok? I’m sorry if I startled you, I just wanted to tell you that your voice is so beautiful. Why don’t you sing more often?”

Mickey was so upset that she stuttered trying to talk. “What, why are you back in here? I thought you, but, um… I thought you were in the other room.”

Tabby looked confused. “Are you mad at me? I was just in the kitchen and thought I heard something so I came in here to check and you have such a beautiful voice. Just wow. I’m sorry if I scared you.”

“Um… please leave. I just… but… please just go.”

“Okay… I really am sorry.” Tabby was really upset now. She wasn’t sure what she had did wrong. She was in the bathroom earlier and everything was fine. Why was she upset? It wasn’t like she hadn’t seen her naked.

Mickey was so upset. She knew she shouldn’t be, Tabby wasn’t poking fun of her, she was pretty sure of that. But for some reason, she just couldn’t calm down. She went into the bedroom and sat on the bed. What was wrong with her? Not only was she upset, but she had upset poor Tabby. Tabby was innocent, she had no idea why Mickey was upset. She shouldn’t have jumped her like that. Mickey started crying.

Tabby had went in the living room and sat on the edge of the couch. She just couldn’t figure it out. Should she go home for the night and leave Mickey alone? For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to go out the door. She made up her mind. Determined to find out what she had done wrong, she stormed back into the bathroom. When she realized Mickey was no longer in there, she headed to the bedroom they had shared for several months now. As soon as she entered, she seen Mickey sitting on the bed still wrapped in her towel, crying. She lost her nerve.

“Mickey, do you really want me to leave? If so, I will.”

Mickey looked up at her, tears streaming down her face. “No. I am so sorry for jumping you like that. Please don’t go.”

“Ok, I won’t go anywhere. But do you want to tell me what is wrong? What happened back there?”

“Oh, that, um… I don’t want to talk about it right now.
